Did you see the blue moon last week? A friend mentioned that the blue moon was coming up over dinner, and it felt extra special to step out on the front porch and watch the full moon rise. How fitting for me, that the ‘blue moon’ appears in a week that feels like that - ‘once in a blue moon’.
This week was my last week of full employment and I am petrified and excited at the same time. At the same time, as you know, Dan and I have taken on the biggest project in our house, yet, ripping out walls, opening up framing and extending the kitchen into what was a pantry area. I’ve had inspirational conversations with friends and strangers, and am feeling positive and excited about what’s to come.
Here are the small things that brought me joy this week.

We finally went roller skating last week!
A toast to celebrating a friend’s birthday
We went to a wood working store for a project and came back with this additional book on joinery
I actually don’t know the source of this image but a friend shared it with me last week and it couldn’t have come at a more perfect time as I’ve been obsessing and thinking about mobiles in the last few weeks
This old song from twenty years ago popped into my head earlier and stayed around for a few days. Mostly it stuck with me because of the opening like “What a difference a day makes”. Isn’t that so true. One day can make all the difference. Maybe it’s major progress in a DIY project. Maybe it’s in meeting a person who will become important in your life. Or it’s the difference between being unhealthy or healthy. A day can make all the difference, and there is opportunity in every day.
Here in Texas, the grocery stores still carry a lot of peaches, so I wanted to share this quick seasonal dessert recipe with caramelized peaches.
Heat some butter in a skillet. Wash and slice a peach or two, coat it in sugar (optional to add some cinnamon if you enjoy that flavor). If you’re having a hard time getting the sugar to stick, you can toss the peach slices in some lemon juice and try coating in sugar again. Add to the pan and cook until golden brown. In my humble opinion, best enjoyed with a scoop of ice cream and some coasted nuts for that crunch.

For me, Mark Twain's words have stuck the most: “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
At 25, I awoke in the Southern Cross Hotel in Suva on my birthday. Before breakfast, I reviewed my first quarter of a century, and decided to be guided by three goals. Have fun. See the world. Tell the truth. At 31, I awoke in Oslo, reviewed my goals, and decided not to change ‘em. I don’t know where I will be on October 2 this year, but there is little chance that I will cancel my original thoughts in the Fiji Islands.
