If you’ve been here for a while, you know that I am obsessed with home projects and currently all my efforts are going into turning our pantry into a beautiful drop-dead gorgeous coffee bar. There has been some progress and I’ll put together a more comprehensive post about it for next week.
In the meantime, I’ve also been playing around with organic forms and side tables. Is it just me or can you never have enough side tables? It took two mornings to cut, router and sand the wood pieces in the hot garage and though there are some modifications needed, it was pretty satisfying to put these pieces together!
Here are the small things that brought me joy this week.

Sunsets never get old.
The thing I love about being with a real estate broker? Touring homes and looking at remodels. Always an inspiration!
Early visit to the farmers market before the heat hits. I have my usual spots where I get mushrooms and dog food/ treats
Snug-in an evening of writing in one of my favorite coffee shop/bar locations in town
At the core we all know, that stress is bad for us and is responsible for health (or lack of health) conditions. But no stress is also not good for us. This was a really interesting episode and I love the Huberman podcast. It’s on the longer side, so maybe good to pace it out over a few days or put it on for chores to run or gym sessions!
One of the concepts they talk about is radical acceptance. Stress cannot be avoided 100%, tough times come and go. Dr. Elissa Epel brought up the example of a rope that’s attached to a wall. Radical acceptance is letting go of the rope and accepting the wall as it is instead of constantly pulling on the rope. I thought that was a pretty good analogy.
Is it an afternoon snack or is it breakfast? Both, perhaps?
As somebody who grew up in Germany, I am really picky when it comes to bread. It has to be crunchy and crusty on the outside, preferably a little dense but most definitely moist inside. And honestly, when I find a good loaf, I’d be happy to just slap on some good butter and a little bit of salt.
But sometimes I like to get a little fancy, and that’s when I use ricotta, juicy ripe figs and a drizzle of honey. Added bonus to throw on some hazelnuts, roasted to bring out more of the flavor. If whole figs aren’t your thing, I could also see a nice preserve spread on top of the ricotta instead!
This isn’t an every-day breakfast for me, but a treat. And that makes it that much more special.
Alas, I don’t feel very wise this week. My last week at work is coming up. People have asked me how the job search is going and I’m a little embarrassed to say that I haven’t really been looking all too hard. I’ve kept an eye out on job board notifications and polished up my resume, but it’s been a far cry from doing a deep dive.
For somebody who has a very low risk tolerance when it comes to financial security and job security, this seems a little unusual. I know how to get a job. I’ve done this countless times before. And somehow, something is urging me to take a break. To not do the same thing for the same results I’ve gotten in the past.
What if I took a well calculated risk? Gave myself some time to see if different actions could bring me different results? Results that are more aligned with who I am? I am a creator at heart. Design, architecture, drawing, writing, art. Those are the things that get me excited, those are the things that get me up in the morning. Those are the things that I would regret not doing more of.
I have no answers. But I trust that life will give me answers if I stand still long enough to listen.
What town has your cafe? Is it close, or do you drive?
I share your passions of design, art, writing, drawing, photography. That’s what makes me getting up excited in the morning!
