This week I was reminded to pay attention to the little things. As I was twisting and turning in bed having a fight with a mosquito that kept coming back and bugging me resulting in a very unrestful night’s sleep that slowed me down for the entire next day. All due to a millimeter-sized insect.
Here are the things that brought me joy in the last few weeks.

It was my birthday and I made a pretty legit Nutella ganache tiramisu
Flowers from my love
Finished the entry console table and am in love with it
Treated myself to a croissant!
Who remembers the movie Amélie? I recently re-discovered the soundtrack as I was looking for piano notes, beautiful melodies to learn playing. I’ll spare you my version but here is the soundtrack.
Nothing like a fresh crunchy salad with layered flavors and a tangy dressing!
Salad: 2 bulbs of fennel, segments of 1 grapefruit, 1 cup of sugar snaps, 3 spring onions, 2 radishes, broccoli sprouts, 1/2 small yellow onion, 2 celery stalks. Cut into small slices and toss it all together.
Dressing: juice of 1/2 lemon, 1-2 tbsp olive oil, salt & pepper, 1 tsp mustard. Mix well and pour over salad before serving.
As I was spending the day in a haze from not sleeping well thanks to the mosquito that had taken residence in our bedroom, I wondered whether there was a lesson or an analogy in there.
The same week, I got a little tiny paper cut on my thumb from the measuring tape and even though it was the tiniest cut - man did it hurt.
Sometimes the details do not matter, and other times they make the biggest difference. What’s the difference?
I find that most of the times the details seem to matter when they are not right. The mosquito is in the room and keeps you awake. The paper cut on your thumb hurts every time you do the dishes. It matters if the wood board is cut 1/8” too big and doesn’t fit. We notice how important the small things are when they’re not right. But we tend to not notice them when they’re right.
If they have the power to make such a huge difference, shouldn’t we pay attention to all the details that are right, too? Appreciate them for that? The pastry having the perfect balance of crunch and sweetness. The weather being beautiful outside. Golden hour casting a beautiful light.
This week’s invitation is to pay attention and notice all the things that go right that we mostly don’t notice anymore.
I loved post. I'm also someone who appreciate small details in life.. but lately, I forgot what I love to do! and this post is great reminder for me to appreciate small things in life and notice how they make huge difference on our life.
That’s a really interesting insight from the papercut. I’m going to try to pay attention to one small thing a day this week.
Right now I’m on the metro and I’m grateful at the ease in which I can take a clean train around the city to where I need to go. Thank you metro
